Precious in the Sight of the Lord
Precious, Oh, how precious is that blessed sleep,
Folded in His bosom, wrapped in slumber deep;
None but Jesus giveth rest so true and sweet
For the weary body and the way-worn feet.
Precious, Oh, how precious, He alone can know
What a blessed respite after human woe;
Only He can measure their eternal gain,
When they leave for ever earthly care and pain.
Precious, Oh, how precious, armour here laid down,
Warfare here accomplished, won the victor’s crown;
Gained His sweet approval and His welcome smile,
For the patient labour of this little while.
Precious, Oh, how precious, to behold His face,
Ever to be with Him and to praise His grace;

Like so much of the old Christian poetry it lines up with Scripture.
Jas_4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
Mat_25:23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
