I am too Great a Sinner to be Saved?
People have all kinds of reasons not to get saved. And this one is not as uncommon as you might think. Sometimes the excuses that you hear are just that, excuses. They have already rejected Christ and desperately need an excuse to sooth their conscience. These verses will take away the excuse and maybe get you to rethink your choice.
Other times people who say that they are too great a sinner to be saved are very sincere and really honestly believe that they have done something so terrible that they cannot be saved. In this case we need to show them that God can and will save anyone. As with all questions, the only answer is to be found in the Word of God and not in what you think or feel. It is always best to stick to scripture to answer any doubts.
Jesus came to save Sinners
Luk 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
1Ti 1:15 This [is] a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
Rom 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Jesus can save no matter what your sin or sins are.
God is not limited in power. He is all powerful. An awful sin is just as easy for Him to save you from as the smallest sin. He can save someone who has committed adultery just as easily as someone who has stolen a Penney from his mother’s purse.
Isa 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Rom 5:6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
Anyone that comes to Christ will not be cast out
Joh 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
Anyone who believes will be saved
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Act 10:43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
Rom 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Are there examples of this in the New Testament?
Yes, there are many. Paul is a great example. Paul went by the name of Saul and he persecuted believers and caused much harm. Paul says that he was a terrible sinner.
1Ti 1:13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
1Ti 1:14 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
1Ti 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
After Saul got saved and started preaching this was said about him.
Act 9:21 But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests?
Paul was destroying the lives of believers and was actually hunting them down to bring them in to be thrown in prison.
In Galatians Paul refers to this.
Gal 1:13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:
And Saul was actually fighting against and persecuting Jesus.
Act 9:1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,
Act 9:2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
Act 9:3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:
Act 9:4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
Act 9:5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
Saul was a wicked man. Breaking many of God’s rules from the Old Testament. He was working against God.
And then he met Jesus and he recognized who Jesus really was and he realized his sin and with a repentant heart Paul said:
Act 9:6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
And at that moment Paul was saved. He instantly went from being an enemy of God who was working against God to a humble servant of God. And Paul was a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious to multitudes and Paul breathed out threatening’s and slaughter. He also was consenting to the death of Stephen and held their coats as they stoned him to death.
And Paul got saved. No one is beyond being saved. No one is too bad. God’s grace and mercy is greater than any sin.
Yes you are a sinner but so is everyone
Rom 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Rom 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Isa 64:6 But we are all as an unclean [thing], and all our righteousnesses [are] as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
The fact is that no one can work their way to heaven. God’s standard in heaven is perfection. Since no one is good enough, that is the reason Jesus had to leave the throne in heaven and come to a sin stained earth and die for us. The just for the unjust. The only payment for sin that would be accepted is a substitution. What ever those that need saving do is stained with sin because we are all sinners thru and thru. Only a sinless saviour will do. And that is Jesus and Jesus alone. Yes you can be saved. No matter what you have done. All you have to do is turn from your sin and to God with a repentant heart. Believe on Jesus and call upon Him to save you, and you have His promise that He will.
