MK 1:30 But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever,
and anon they tell him of her.
Simon is another name for Peter. Peter is who the
Catholics falsely claim was the first pope. The whole Catholic system was
not invented by men until hundreds of years later. Popes are not allowed
to have wives, but here we see that Peter clearly had a wife. Just to be
clear, Peter was not the first pope.
MK 1:31 And he came and took her by the hand, and
lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.
Peter's mother in law was sick and they tell Jesus
about it. Jesus comes and takes her by the hand, lifts her up and
immediately she is healed. The physical healing of Jesus is a picture of
His spiritual healing. Look at the parallel here. She was sick, we
are all born spiritually sick. We are all born with a sin nature.
She could not heal herself, we cannot heal ourselves. We cannot cure our
sin. We cannot work our way to heaven. Her sickness made her
incapable of doing good works. Her sickness had her bedridden. Our
sin makes us incapable of doing works to please God. The Bible says that
all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags. If she was not healed she
would die. If we are saved we will spend an eternity in the lake of fire,
which is the second death.
Other's brought Jesus to her. Most people who get
saved had someone who introduced Jesus to them.
Jesus took her by the hand and lifted her up and
immediately she was healed. When we receive Him as our Saviour, Jesus
immediately lifts us up to a new position as a son of God. This change is
immediate. There is no waiting period. Three is no probation.
There is no loosing it. He lifts us up and sets us on the Rock Christ
Jesus.
And immediately after she is healed, she starts
ministering to them. She starts working for Christ. We don't work to
get saved, but we are to work after we are saved.
Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ
Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in
them.
After you get saved you are to get busy serving your
Lord and Saviour.
Thought On This Chapter
MK 1:23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an
unclean spirit; and he cried out,
MK 1:24 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with
thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou
art, the Holy One of God.
MK 1:25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace,
and come out of him.
MK 1:26 And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and
cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.
MK 1:27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they
questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is
this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do
obey him.
Jesus went to where people were to reach them. He
did not stay in one place and expect everyone to come to Him. (We should
do some tall thinking on that, as the old timers used to say)
Jesus went to a synagogue to preach the word of God,
and in the synagogue was a possessed man. The demon cries out Saying, Let
us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to
destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
This demon knew who Jesus was. He knew that Jesus
was the Holy One of God. He knew that Jesus had the power to destroy him.
He even asked if Jesus had come to destroy them. He knew that Jesus was
God manifested in the flesh. This demon had seen Jesus in His full glory
in Heaven before he chose to follow Satan. This demon did not want to get
cast out and told Jesus Let us alone. But the demon had no power or sway
with Jesus. Jesus simply rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out
of him. Jesus did not have to do anything but simply command.
The demon had no choice but to obey. Jesus has
all power. The people who saw it were amazed. They said, What thing
is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the
unclean spirits, and they do obey him.
What thing is this? they asked. It was Jesus
demonstrating who He really is. He was showing His power over all things.
Even demons must obey Him. Jesus truly was God in the flesh when He walked
the earth.
The demon knew and recognized who Jesus really is.
How about you?
MK 1:1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;
MK 1:2 As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

MK 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
MK 1:5 And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.
MK 1:6 And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;
MK 1:7 And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.
MK 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
MK 1:9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.
MK 1:10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:
MK 1:11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
MK 1:12 And immediately the spirit driveth him into the wilderness.
MK 1:13 And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.
MK 1:14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
MK 1:15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
MK 1:16 Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
MK 1:17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
MK 1:18 And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.
MK 1:19 And when he had gone a little farther thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.
MK 1:20 And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.
MK 1:21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.
MK 1:22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
MK 1:23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,
MK 1:24 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
MK 1:25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
MK 1:26 And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.
MK 1:27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.
MK 1:28 And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.
MK 1:29 And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
MK 1:30 But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.
MK 1:31 And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.
MK 1:32 And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.
MK 1:33 And all the city was gathered together at the door.
MK 1:34 And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.
MK 1:35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
MK 1:36 And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.
MK 1:37 And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee.
MK 1:38 And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth.
MK 1:39 And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils.
MK 1:40 And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
MK 1:41 And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.
MK 1:42 And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.
MK 1:43 And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away;
MK 1:44 And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
MK 1:45 But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to blaze abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
General Information About the Book of Mark.
The book of Mark is the autobiography
of Jesus as a servant. The key words are straightway, immediately, and
forthwith. A good exercise to see this is to take and highlight these
words in the first few chapters of the book of Mark.
The key verse is Mark 10:45 For even the
Son of man came not to be ministered unto but to minister, and to give his life
a ransom for many.
The theme of Mark is to present Jesus
Christ as the suffering servant.

John the Baptist preached repentance.
Jesus followed and preached repentance.
Jesus says He came to call sinners to repentance. Luk 5:32 I came not to
call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Repentance is a change of mind about your
sin. True repentance is a change of mind that results in a change of
direction. You must turn from your sin and turn to God.
God does the saving. God gives the power. We are not saved by works,
but to be saved we must repent. You must really change your mind about
your sin.
And we are commanded to preach repentance
Luk 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his
name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
So where are all the preachers preaching
repentance?
